From the dense forest, a majestic horse with glossy chestnut fur and a white blaze on its forehead charged toward the coffin.

Yet, heedless of the chaos and cries, the horse raced on—only to halt abruptly just inches from the coffin, standing as if frozen.

They all remembered now—the stories of how the woman in the coffin, Lenora, had once cared for animals like they were family. Especially that horse, Orion. She’d raised him as a foal, taught him to trust, and rode him every day until he was too wild to be kept safely near the village. She had tearfully released him into the forest years ago, trusting he would survive on his own.

The priest stepped back respectfully.

As the coffin was lowered, Orion let out another soft sound—a mix of breath and whine—and pawed gently at the ground.

Without a single glance at the crowd, he trotted back toward the forest, vanishing between the trees.
No one followed.
No one spoke for a long time.
