President Donald Trump dismissed ABC News\u2019 Terry Moran\u2019s question about his confidence in Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth as \u201cstupid.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a prime-time interview marking his 100th day in office on Tuesday, Trump was asked about his discussions with Hegseth, who has recently drawn attention for using the encrypted Signal app for official business and the ongoing shake-up at the Pentagon that resulted in the departure of his top aides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDid you take him to the woodshed?\u201d Moran asked at one point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI had a talk with him, and whatever I said, I probably wouldn\u2019t be inclined to tell you, but we had a good talk,\u201d Trump responded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a talented guy, he\u2019s young, he\u2019s smart, highly educated, and I think he\u2019s gonna be a very good defense- hopefully a great defense secretary, but he\u2019ll be a very good defense secretary,\u201d Trump added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou have 100% confidence in Pete Hegseth,\u201d said in a follow-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have 100% confidence in anything, okay? Anything,\u201d Trump fired back. \u201c\u2018Do I have 100%\u2019 \u2013 It\u2019s a stupid question.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a pretty important position,\u201d Moran quickly responded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo, no, no,\u201d Trump pushed back. \u201cYou don\u2019t have 100% \u2013 only a liar would say I have 100% confidence. I don\u2019t have 100% confidence that we\u2019re gonna finish this interview.\u201d\u201cWe will,\u201d Moran replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the first of two events marking his initial 100 days in office on Tuesday, President Donald Trump surprised Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a likely 2028 presidential contender, by unexpectedly calling her to the podium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 78-year-old president was addressing service members at Selfridge Air National Guard Base northeast of Detroit when he singled her out, according to video clips circulating online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI want to thank Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer,\u201d the president began. \u201cYou know, I\u2019m not supposed to do that. She\u2019s a Democrat. They say, \u2018don\u2019t do that, don\u2019t have her here.\u2019 I said, \u2018No, she\u2019s going to be here\u2026 she\u2019s done a very good job.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor decades, they\u2019ve been trying to save this facility,\u201d Trump also said, \u201cincluding your governor, who has done a very good job. She came to see me. That\u2019s the reason she came to see me, by the way, to save Selfridge. She was very effective.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly thereafter, Trump then prompted Whitmer to come to the podium to say a few words, during which she appeared visibly uncomfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
