The attack is the second largest direct attack by Tehran on US targets after the Islamic Republic\u2019s response to the killing of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Gen. Qasem Soleimani in 2020,\u201d the AL-Monitor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.al-monitor.com\/originals\/2025\/06\/iran-retaliates-fires-missiles-us-bases-qatar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The US Embassy in Qatar issued an emergency \u201cshelter in place\u201d order for any Americans residing there on Monday, citing rising tensions with Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The embassy stated that the advisory was issued \u201cout of an abundance of caution\u201d but did not provide any particular threats. The alert follows the State Department\u2019s warning to the American people throughout the world in response to the US\u2019s extraordinary strikes on Iran\u2019s nuclear facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fox News reported on Monday morning that sources have said that Iran could be planning to attack a United States military base or region in Qatar within the \u201cnext 48 hours.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe conflict between Israel and Iran has resulted in disruptions to travel and periodic closure of airspace across the Middle East. There is the potential for demonstrations against U.S. citizens and interests abroad. Leaders in Congress were aware of the urgency of this situation and the Commander-in-Chief evaluated that the imminent danger outweighed the time it would take for Congress to act,\u201d Johnson&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SpeakerJohnson\/status\/1936602051431063760\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>&nbsp;on the X platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe world\u2019s largest state sponsor of terrorism, which chants \u2018Death to America,\u2019 simply could not be allowed the opportunity to obtain and use nuclear weapons. The President fully respects the Article I power of Congress, and tonight\u2019s necessary, limited, and targeted strike follows the history and tradition of similar military actions under presidents of both parties,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Sunday, several administration officials reiterated that the U.S. was not \u201cat war\u201d with Iran and that Trump\u2019s actions were limited and specific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) also supported Trump\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe regime in Iran, which has committed itself to bringing \u2018death to America\u2019 and wiping Israel off the map, has rejected all diplomatic pathways to peace. The mullahs\u2019 misguided pursuit of nuclear weapons must be stopped. As we take action tonight to ensure a nuclear weapon remains out of reach for Iran, I stand with President Trump and pray for the American troops and personnel in harm\u2019s way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-Wy.) added, \u201cPresident @realDonaldTrump\u2019s decision to strike Iran\u2019s nuclear program is the right one. The greatest threat to the safety of the United States and the world is Iran with a nuclear weapon. God Bless our troops.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Republican Conference Chairman and U.S. Army veteran Sen. Tom Cotton agreed as well, noting Iran\u2019s history of attacking Americans and American interests for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIran has waged a war of terror against the United States for 46 years. We could never allow Iran to get nuclear weapons. God bless our brave troops.
