{"id":535,"date":"2025-06-18T00:33:03","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T00:33:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/states-news.com\/?p=535"},"modified":"2025-07-22T23:30:16","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T23:30:16","slug":"doj-launches-probe-after-chilling-report-on-riot-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/states-news.com\/?p=535","title":{"rendered":"DOJ Launches Probe After Chilling Report On Riot Funding"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>An investigation is underway to determine who is sponsoring anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) riots in Los Angeles and other major U.S. cities after a prominent corporation stated it has received requests for assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crowds on Demand, a California-based firm that specializes in delivering on-demand protest crowds, told Fox News Digital that it had \u201cnumerous high-budget requests\u201d to join in the anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles and other locations but rejected them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A company spokesperson&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/us\/anti-ice-riot-funding-investigated-after-numerous-high-budget-requests-for-paid-agitators-were-reported\/ar-AA1GDxvM?ocid=BingNewsSerp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>&nbsp;it declined to get involved in what is happening in Los Angeles because it did \u201cnot want to get close to any form of illegal activity, including violence, vandalism or blocking off roads without a permit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe receive inquiries regarding practically every major social cause imaginable, and the anti-ICE demonstrations are no exception,\u201d the company said. \u201cThe fact that we receive requests does not mean we take them, in many cases, because the budget does not match the ambition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company added it only takes on \u201cimpactful commonsense causes both for liberals and conservatives, but always represent(s) the commonsense position.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEven organizing peaceful demonstrators around this issue (anti-ICE) could put those demonstrators at risk due to the presence of violent agitators and the difficulty for law enforcement in distinguishing between peaceful and violent activists,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Missouri Republican&nbsp;Sen. Josh Hawley, the chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism, shared that the committee is sending letters to multiple organizations believed to be behind the funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the groups questioned by Hawley and Republican California Rep. Kevin Kiley is the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, or CHIRLA, an advocacy group said to be at the heart of the anti-ICE rallies in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWho is funding the LA riots? This violence isn\u2019t spontaneous. As chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime &amp; Terrorism, I\u2019m launching an investigation to find out,\u201d Hawley posted in a statement on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hawley\u2019s letter noted that \u201ccredible reporting\u201d has indicated the organization has provided \u201clogistical support and financial resources to individuals engaged in these disruptive actions,\u201d referring to the Los Angeles riots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLet me be clear: bankrolling civil unrest is not protected speech. It is aiding and abetting criminal conduct. Gavin Newsom\u2019s goal may be a conflict of interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe \u2018nonprofit\u2019 behind the LA riots donated almost $500,000 to support Newsom\u2019s campaign. It then received $34 million in state funding. I\u2019m sure this is all a coincidence,\u201d Kiley wrote in a post on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kiley also told Fox News that CHIRLA had backed a campaign to eliminate ICE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe NGO known as CHIRLA was centrally involved in the LA riots. The organization, which has previously sponsored a campaign to abolish ICE, alerted the rioters to where ICE operations were occurring in real time. The agitators would then show up and disrupt ICE activities, including through the use of violence,\u201d Kiley said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis group is a major campaign contributor to Gavin Newsom and has received $34 million in state funding.
