An unidentified man was arrested early Monday after allegedly smashing windows at Vice President JD Vance\u2019s Cincinnati home, authorities said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspect was detained by Secret Service agents and later turned over to local police on suspicion of property damage, according to agency spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe residence was unoccupied at the time of the incident, and the Vice President and his family were not in Ohio,\u201d Guglielmi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Associated Press, citing two law enforcement officials, reported that Secret Service agents heard a loud noise near the home around midnight and discovered that a man had broken a window with a hammer and was attempting to get inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspect also vandalized a Secret Service vehicle while making his way up the driveway, one of the officials told the AP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
WLWT-TV reported that Vance, 41, had spent the past week in the Queen City before heading back to Washington on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vance purchased the home in Cincinnati\u2019s upscale Walnut Hills neighborhood in 2018 for $1.4 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The residence drew national attention last year after Vance criticized pro-Ukraine protesters who demonstrated outside the house and allegedly confronted him while he was walking with his young daughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI decided to speak with the protesters in the hopes that I could trade a few minutes of conversation for them leaving my toddler alone. (Nearly all of them agreed),\u201d Vance wrote on X at the time. \u201cIt was a mostly respectful conversation, but if you\u2019re chasing a 3-year-old as part of a political protest, you\u2019re a s\u2013t person.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
