Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) generated widespread outrage online Wednesday when she appeared to mock Christians while speaking in a bizarre, contrived \u201csouthern\u201d accent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a discussion at the Harvard Kennedy School\u2019s Institute of Politics, Pelosi was asked by moderator Alison King whether she agreed with sentiment from many political analysts that Democrats drifted \u201ctoo far left\u201d on a number of issues, including economic policy, immigration and social issues like gender ideology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pelosi dismissed the notion in a lengthy, rambling statement in which she argued that her party\u2019s beliefs reflected those of the American public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI think that we are a reflection of our country \u2026 Understand this isn\u2019t about anything coming from on high. It\u2019s about who we are. We are a beautiful, diverse country,\u201d the former House speaker said. \u201cAnd if they find that offensive with their DEI [Diversity, Equity and Inclusion] initiatives and they want to sell it as \u2018We\u2019re all so left.\u2019 It\u2019s ridiculous \u2026 you can\u2019t win from the left. You run from the center because that\u2019s where you\u2019re going to have to govern \u2014 from the center.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHow can they be complaining if we want education for all of our children, whatever their ethnicity or if they\u2019re newcomers to our country?\u201d she added. \u201cHow could they be complaining if they say that schools want to \u2026 every white person in this room: you\u2019re advantaged by every other person in this room because of the diversity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After quoting former President Ronald Reagan in order to claim that mass immigration is necessary, Pelosi went on to mock evangelical Christians while speaking in a contrived \u201csouthern\u201d accent. \u201cYou\u2019re people of faith? You go to church on Sunday and pray in church on Sunday and prey on people the rest of the week. What is this? What is this?\u201d she asked in the accent while giggling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
