{"id":2483,"date":"2025-09-17T13:29:22","date_gmt":"2025-09-17T13:29:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/states-news.com\/?p=2483"},"modified":"2025-09-17T13:29:22","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T13:29:22","slug":"new-top-washington-post-editor-fired-in-disgrace-over-comments-about-charlie-kirk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/states-news.com\/?p=2483","title":{"rendered":"NEW: Top Washington Post Editor Fired In Disgrace Over Comments About Charlie Kirk"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A top editor at the Washington Post claims she is the victim of cancel culture after calling out Charlie Kirk for \u201cracial double standards\u201d when it comes to gun violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Karen Attiah, who wrote an opinion column for the paper and served as an opinion editor, cited several of Kirk\u2019s past social media posts in her Substack newsletter, where she described his alleged antipathy toward gun violence and suggested that a certain amount of violence must be accepted to preserve the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In one post, she criticized inaction from \u201cwhite America,\u201d which she said \u201cis not going to do what it needs to do to get rid of guns in their country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She rejected accusations from the Post\u2019s owners that her comments were \u201cunacceptable,\u201d \u201cgross misconduct,\u201d and endangered \u201cthe physical safety of colleagues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome news: I\u2019ve been fired from the Washington Post,\u201d she wrote on X. \u201cBut my work will continue anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Accompanying her defiant statement was a picture of Attiah holding a burning copy of the Post and a pink rose stuffed in her mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also Read : <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/states-news.com\/?p=2464\">BREAKING: FBI Is Investigating Multiple Left-Wing Groups Over Potential Connection To Kirk Assassination<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Washington Post did not comment on its decision when asked by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/09\/15\/business\/washington-post-columnist-fired-charlie-kirk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NYT<\/a>. The Post\u2019s online social media guide for its journalists states that employees must conduct themselves online with respect and civility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, the paper underwent an overhaul when owner Jeff Bezos announced that he had asked editors to hire more conservative columnists\u00a0who advocate for \u201cpersonal liberties and free markets.\u201d That directive came after Bezos allegedly intercepted a planned endorsement of Kamala Harris\u2019s 2024 presidential candidacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Will Lewis, the Post\u2019s chief executive and former leader of the Wall Street Journal, also defended the paper\u2019s decision not to issue an endorsement in the race even after news emerged that the editorial board strongly favored Kamala Harris. Lewis insisted Bezos played no role in the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the prominent figures who exited after the decision was Robert Kagan, an editor-at-large known for his commentary on U.S. foreign policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other observers in the media have decried an alleged \u201cdouble standard\u201d on the right for canceling individuals who speak out against Kirk while denouncing his assassination.
