California Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff came to a stark realization about his party following the theft of his personal belongings a couple of years ago while visiting San Francisco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a recent appearance on Bill Maher\u2019s HBO program, the well-known architect of the false \u201cTrump-Russia collusion\u201d narrative acknowledged that his party could potentially lose power in deep-blue California, as a recent poll found 50% of respondents would consider voting for a Republican governor in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said he believes rampant crime is a concern, as he sought to distance himself from the soft-on-crime policies he has supported for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo we\u2019re going to have to change how we do business in California. We\u2019re going to have to address people\u2019s legitimate concerns about crime,\u201d he said after years of supporting liberal so-called \u2018soft on crime\u2019 policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI was in South San Francisco two years ago after I had an experience in the city that all too many people had when my luggage was stolen out of my car. They tell you don\u2019t ever leave your luggage in the car. I never do until the one time I did. And of course it got stolen,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Organized theft rings, similar to flash mobs, have become common in California as the penalties for stealing items valued under $950 have been reduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With that in mind, the senator spoke of a conversation he had with a cashier at a local Target store as the host quipped, \u201cYou went there by yourself, not an assistant?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI uh\u2026 I think I went there\u2026 well yes, I had somebody drop me off at the store,\u201d he said as the audience laughed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell, he was honest in admitting it, right?\u201d Maher quipped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that the cashier was \u201chard to find\u201d just to unlock some common items like shampoo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo that\u2019s one thing. And then I get to the cashier. The cashier asked me if I wanted one of those Target bags with a little bullseye on it. And I said, \u2018yes, that Target bag is going to be my luggage for the next two days,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd she asked me what happened. And I told her and she basically said in not so many words that Democrats are a***oles,\u201d the senator said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd I thought, you know, if the cashier in South San Francisco at 10 o\u2019clock at night believes that Democrats are a***oles because the shampoo is locked up and my stuff got stolen out of the trunk, we\u2019ve got a major problem that we have to address,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier this month, however, Schiff expressed frustration over the Democratic Party\u2019s lack of a \u201ccoordinated response\u201d to President Donald Trump during an interview with ABC\u2019s Jonathan Karl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI think the lack of a coordinated response in the State of the Union was a mistake, and frankly, it took the focus off of where it should have been, which is on the fact that the president spoke for an hour and 40 minutes and had nothing to say about what he would do to bring down costs for American families that were watching that lengthy address, sitting at the kitchen table hoping he would offer something to help them afford a new home or pay their rent, afford health care, or afford child care,\u201d Schiff said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The lawmaker addressed the critiques by Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman, where he called the Democrats\u2019 situation \u201ca sad cavalcade of self-owns and unhinged petulance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey\u2019re destroying the economy, and they\u2019re making it harder and harder for Americans to afford things. That\u2019s where we need to keep the focus, that\u2019s why we lost the last election, because we weren\u2019t laser-focused on the high cost of living and what they\u2019re doing now is just making it so much worse,\u201d Schiff claimed \u2014 falsely, according to the most recent economic data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
