{"id":1783,"date":"2025-08-20T23:10:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T23:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/states-news.com\/?p=1783"},"modified":"2025-08-20T23:10:01","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T23:10:01","slug":"rhode-island-democratic-prosecutor-arrested-for-trespassing-threatens-cops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/states-news.com\/?p=1783","title":{"rendered":"Rhode Island Democratic Prosecutor Arrested For Trespassing, Threatens Cops"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A Rhode Island prosecutor allegedly ordered Newport police officers to shut off their body cameras as she was placed in the back of a cruiser on trespassing charges \u2014 warning them they would \u201cregret it,\u201d according to reports and authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police said they encountered Special Assistant Attorney General Devon Hogan Flanagan and her friend, Veronica Hannan, outside the Clarke Cooke House restaurant on Thursday evening while responding to a call about an \u201cunwanted party,\u201d NBC10 reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bodycam footage released by the department shows Flanagan, a Democrat, making threats and attempting to intimidate officers by invoking her position during the confrontation, the New York Post&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/19\/us-news\/ri-prosecutor-threatens-cops-to-shut-off-body-cameras-while-being-arrested-for-alleged-trespassing-youre-going-to-regret-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As police arrived, the prosecutor told officers, \u201cI want you to turn your bodycam off. Protocol is that you turn it off. It\u2019s a citizen request that you turn it off,\u201d she demanded, according to the footage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey want you to leave. Let\u2019s just leave,\u201d an officer can be heard telling the two women. In the footage, an officer is also heard asking a man at the restaurant\u2019s host stand whether he wanted the women removed from the property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnything we can do. Trespass, yes, cuff them, please,\u201d the man replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not trespassing. I don\u2019t want to arrest you guys,\u201d an officer replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a continued struggle after getting the women to leave the restaurant and repeated requests for cops to turn off their body cameras, Hannan tells cops that Flanagan is \u201ca (expletive) lawyer. So she knows.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWell, that\u2019s bull (expletive) lawyer stuff. So that\u2019s not true,\u201d the officer quickly responded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m an AG. I\u2019m an AG,\u201d Flanagan replied, to which the officer yelled, \u201cGood for you. I don\u2019t give a (expletive). Let\u2019s go.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBuddy, you\u2019re gonna regret this. You\u2019re gonna regret it,\u201d Flanagan is heard saying in the body camera video. \u201cI\u2019m an A.G.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re going to regret it.
