LANAO DEL SUR , Philippines – Two alleged members of the Maute group were arrested at their hideout in Lumbatan town in this province on Monday night.

Sailanie Asral Mamaorong and Mama Batara face charges for rebellion and illegal possession of firearms, said Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police director.

Local officials and barangay leaders said the suspects are henchmen of Omar and Abdullah Maute, founders of the Maute group also known as the Dawlah Islamiya.

Sindac said residents led soldiers and policemen to the hideout of the suspects in Barangay Pantar.

“They did not resist arrest…They could have been killed if they fired at the raiding team,” Sindac said.

He said the suspects turned over an improvised rifle and a grenade launcher.
